Ireland’s Robert Hendrick finished 46th in his heat at the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Maryland in the United States yesterday. The 16-year-old competes in a C1 (Canadian canoe).

He took silver at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China last month, but would have had to finish in the top 30 at Deep Creek to qualify for the semi-finals.

Liam Jegou, a silver medallist at the World Junior Championships in the C1 this year, chose not to compete because of his school commitments.

In the K1 heats in Maryland yesterday, Sam Curtis, who finished 53rd, and Patrick Hynes, 60th, both failed to progress. Only the top 40 qualified for the semi-finals.
