Tyson Fury will not face an investigation into his controversal comments about homosexuality after Greater Manchester police ruled that he had not committed a criminal offence.

A member of the public lodged a complaint against the world heavyweight champion earlier this week after Fury once again aired his views on homosexuality. GMP said the comments had been recorded as a “hate incident” but it was taking no further action against the 27-year-old after interviewing the complainant.

“The circumstances in which these comments were made suggest that no criminal offence has taken place and this matter will not be investigated any further,” said a police spokesman.

The BBC journalist Andy West revealed on Thursday that he has been suspended by the corporation after stating he was “ashamed” that his employer had invited Fury to its Sports Personality of the Year show.
