AKEED MOFEED is not a certain runner in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday.
The John Oxx-trained colt is prominent in the betting for the Investec Derby but his participation for the Classic trial is in some doubt.
Akeed Mofeed missed the 2,000 Guineas after suffering a setback and Oxx is still not convinced he is back to his best.
“We’ve no definite decision yet. We just have to do a little more work and make up our minds,” said Oxx. “It may come too soon. I’d say he’s not a certain runner, we’ll see on Friday morning.”
At Chester today David Livingston can provide Aidan O’Brien with a fourth MBNA Chester Vase victory in six years.
Ballydoyle’s inmate must give away weight to his four rivals, but he undeniably takes the best form into the race. The Galileo colt, out of a half-sister to High Chaparral and Dante winner Black Bear Island, signed off his juvenile career with a truly impressive display in the Beresford Stakes.
Behind him that day was Akeed Mofeed. That win was also important with this assignment in mind as the Curragh was a quagmire that day. With the ground on the Roodee again likely to be soft, David Livingston should be in his element.
