Parasol hard to oppose

Parasol can claim top honours at Goodwood today by taking the Listed Peters Fairline Festival Stakes. David Loder's five-year-old came on in leaps and bounds last year, winning four times on the all-weather and turf including a victory in the valuable Winter Derby at Lingfield.

Parasol demonstrated that he is still in good heart despite a lengthy lay-off when finishing second to Bandari at Chester on his seasonal reappearance. On his first run since the previous July, the son of Halling tried to make all in the Listed Huxley Stakes only to be collared by Bandari and lose out by a length and three-quarters.

The winner is a top-class horse on his day having been placed in Classic company and Parasol did well to finish so close.

Incheni failed to live up to expectations last time in the 1,000 Guineas, but the Listed Excel Schroders London Boat Show EBF Stakes looks much more her level. Geoff Wragg may have been aiming a touch too high when pitching her in in Classic company and it was no surprise she finished 16th in the race.
