Hughenden report/Glasgow - 24 Munster - 13: Munster crashed to their second away defeat in the Magners League this season after losing at Hughenden to a Glasgow side that claimed its first win in a game dominated by the boot of Scotland outhalf Dan Parks.

The Australian-born Parks kicked four penalty goals and the conversion of his own try to end with a personal tally of 19 points. All of which was very little comfort to a Munster side that showed little flair behind the scrum and committed a succession of costly errors at crucial times during the match.

Munster were the quicker out of the blocks and should have claimed an early score, but instead it was the Scottish team who grabbed the first points with a penalty goal by Parks after the visitors were judged guilty of not rolling away from the tackle.

But when Glasgow's front row were deemed to have "popped", scrumhalf Jeremy Manning put Munster back on level terms with a 45-metre penalty.

The kicking duel between the two outhalves continued after Munster were penalised for using hands in the ruck, allowing Parks to goal from the 10-metre line, but from the restart Glasgow were penalised for blocking, giving Manning his second successful kick to level the scores again.

Mercifully, the next score broke the kickers' monopoly, as Glasgow's Tom Evans sprinted on to Parks's well-placed, crossfield punt over the Munster defence. After diving for the ball with Anthony Horgan, the left wing was deemed to have touched down in the corner for the opening try, though he had clearly knocked the ball on before touching down.

Munster had a further chance at goal, but this time they elected to kick for the corner, only for the ensuing lineout to yield possession to Glasgow.

At the other end, Glasgow had no thoughts other than a kick at goal when they were awarded a penalty for an offside misdemeanour by the visitors in front of their posts - Parks duly obliging with his third success of the night.

Four minutes into the second half, Parks struck again with a penalty goal and then proved it was his night as the Glasgow outhalf extended his personal points tally with an 80-metre interception try and the conversion for a 24-6 lead.

The Scottish provincial side were quickly brought down from cruising altitude with the sin-binning in quick succession of prop Euan Murray and then replacement scrumhalf Sam Pinder but knock-ons by first Brian O'Meara and then Tomás O'Leary nullified the numerical advantage.

But the pressure finally told and it was O'Leary, repositioned at fullback, who cut through the Glasgow defence, Eoghan Hickey converting for the final points of the match.
