SCHOOLS' RUGBY/Munster Junior Cup - PBC Cork ... 16 St Munchin's ... 10: Holders Presentation Brothers College Cork, finally fought off the vigorous challenge from St Munchin's to advance to the semi-finals at The Mardyke yesterday.
They had their work cut out to dispose of the Limerick team after the recent 20-20 draw at Thomond Park but just about deserved their win even though they lost out 1-2 on the try count.
Howard Caulfield gave St Munchin's an 18th-minute lead with a fine try but Eoin Cotter responded for PBC just before half-time with a penalty and he gave them the lead with another penalty 16 minutes into the second half.
Scott Deasy's intercept try and Cotter's conversion nine minutes from the end should have been the end of St Munchin's but they made a big game of it when Ronan Costello crossed for a late try. However, that was about as much as they could muster and Jeffrey Power's injury-time drop-goal secured victory for Pres.
