MUNSTER SENIOR SCHOOLS CUP: Pres, Cork 11 St Munchin's 3:PBC had compensation for last season's semi-final defeat by St Munchin's at the superb new St Mary's junior club complex at Corbally.
PBC won because they made fewer mistakes with ball in hand whereas St Munchin’s conceded far too many penalties, mainly forced by the dominant PBC frontrow.
The Cork side had the best player on view in scrumhalf John Poland, who gave a fluent service and kicked two penalties. Poland opened the scoring after 20 minutes. They held the lead until 10 minutes into the second half but after 52 minutes came the only try.
St Munchin’s fullback Shane Halpin attempted to block a clearance with his foot, but the ball spun up into the hands of Ben Murray, who raced through to touch down.
Poland was inches wide with the conversion but subsequently landed an insurance penalty.
