WOMEN'S HOCKEY:RAILWAY UNION will have to wait at least another year before attempting to win the first Irish Senior Cup in the club's history, as last season's beaten finalists lost 3-2 to Ulster champions Pegasus in Saturday's first-round tie at Park Avenue.
Twice Pegasus came from behind, with goals from their former internationals Suzanne Beaney and Claire McMahon and recent recruit from Armagh Stephanie Quinn proving enough to inflict a rare defeat on the national champions.
Loreto and Old Alexandra had significantly more comfortable afternoons against Ulster opponents. Niamh Small and Cathy McKean scored two apiece in Loreto’s 6-0 win over Knock, while Alexandra eased to a 5-1 defeat of Randalstown.
Bray, though, lost 2-0 away to Ards.
UCD had their third victory of the season over Trinity, beating their old foes 3-0, while a single goal proved enough for Ballymoney and Ulster Elks to see off UCC and Queen’s respectively.
