Both Pembroke Wanderers and Glenanne should have sufficient control of tomorrow's Leinster Senior Cup semi-finals against Three Rock Rovers and UCD, at Grange Road and St Mark's, respectively, to contest the final on St Patrick's Day.

The Pembroke side has become so well settled that Rovers, in their transition stage, have not found the balance to upset them. The league results (5-0 and 2-0) showed that Nigel Henderson and Turlough O Siochain kept Liam Canning and Robin Madeley at bay while Pembroke built up a midfield bridgehead for Devin Donnelly and his cohorts to break the Rovers cover incisively.

In the concentrated elimination of Avoca, the overlapping of Francis de Rosa emphasised Wanderers' total approach as - guided by Jonathan Cole - they continue their quest for the grand slam.

They must still feel uneasy, though, about the prospect of tackling Glenanne, somewhat of a bogey team. There is the irony that Glenanne's league hopes were virtually ruined by their astonishing home defeat by UCD but the students - even with Keith Fishbourne available - cannot be expected to commit themselves to a repeat performance tomorrow and one would expect that 3-1 result to be reversed.

Meanwhile, Trinity have shown some fortitude in the Irish Senior Cup and it would not be surprising if they were to emerge as the most modest side in the quarterfinals by standing firm against Parkview in the third-round replay in Belfast.

Also included in tomorrow's programme is a Leinster League game between Monkstown and YMCA in which both sides will be anxious to pull away from the universities at the bottom of the table. Monkstown's display against Corinthians in the cup last weekend indicates that they can start to collect precious points. With David Jenkins and Ian Stuart shaking off injury, their midfield options have been increased.

While Leinster's representation in the Irish under-21 squad is pretty meagre, a strong response is expected from Glenanne and Three Rock Rovers in the provincial cup final at this level at Grange Road on Sunday. Graham Shaw and Stephen Butler may well be Glenanne's aces but Gary Ringwood and the other members of Rovers' senior team will have plenty in response and look better balanced.
