St Columba's, playing an attractive brand of open rugby, were hanging on for dear life in the second-half of their semi-final with Skerries at Clontarf yesterday when outhalf Ross Cork's huge garryowen fell to Philpot and he raced into the corner.
Before that, St Columba's had taken an early 7-0 lead through a try from openside Jimmy Moore, converted by full back Julian Cafolla.
Skerries' big forwards gave the side good field position for long periods, and scrumhalf Kevin Keane made it 7-3 from a 45th minute penalty.
