Course overview: There are three par-fives on the course (554-yard 3rd, 595-yard 13th and 558-yard 15th) but this desert track is suited to long-hitting, attacking players because the fairways are generous and there are very few real troublespots. Mark Calcacavecchia finished 28-under par in 2001. The often raucous galleries are the biggest probem facing the players, and the famous par-three 16th usually draws boos from the fans packed in.

Last year's winner: Kyle Stanley, who overcame an eight-shot deficit as Spencer Levin fell away.

Weather forecast: Clear skies and precious little wind should result in perfect conditions for shooting low numbers.

Type of player suited to the course: The challenge here is pretty straightforward – hit it as far as you can down the open fairways and then make sure your wedge is hot – and your putter even hotter. And make sure you hold your nerve at the intimidating 16th, where there will be plenty of people willing the ball to get into the hole - but woe betide you if it doesn't!
