Lester Piggott will return to the saddle in a special fundraiser race in aid of the Shane Broderick Appeal Fund at the Curragh's St Leger meeting next Saturday.

The legendary nine-times Derby winner will find himself in unique competition against his daughter Tracy in the 10-furlong contest which will be run immediately after the Leger. The duo will be joined by RTE presenter Robert Hall as well former riders Declan Murphy, Brendan Sheridan and Michael Kennedy. Trainers taking part will include Arthur Moore, Frank Berry, Irene Oakes and Peter Ng from Hong Kong. An equine star will be Doran's Pride, so closely associated with Shane Broderick's career, who will be partnered by his trainer Michael Hourigan.

Another unusual event will wind up the racing at Leopardstown today when Tipperary-born Michael Kinane will take on Grand National winner Jason Titley, originally from Shannon, Co Clare, in a specially arranged match race to coincide with tomorrow's hurling final. The Bord Gais Challenge will see the riders carrying their county colours over a mile and six furlongs with Kinane on Dermot Weld's Western Chief and Titley on Martin Brassil's Western Seas.
