Lester Piggott's return to the saddle may not have been successful at the Curragh on Saturday, but almost £70,000 was raised by the one-mile race in aid of the Shane Broderick Appeal Fund.

Piggott was the last of the 29 runners to the start on Fill The Bill, was first out of the stalls but faded to finish only 15th behind the Dermot Weld-trained winner Celtic Lore who was ridden by Castlemartin Stud manager James Kelly.

Typically, Piggott was in monosyllabic form afterwards but commented: "It was good fun."
