Martin Pipe ended his day as he started it at Folkestone yesterday when Mr Cool put him on the 2,990-winner mark in the closing Ruckinge Maiden Hurdle.

Through The Rye had given Pipe the record for the most winners for a trainer in British racing history when landing the opening Sponsor A Race at Folkestone Juvenile Novices' Hurdle under Tony McCoy.

But Mr Cool had to battle to give the Nicholashayne trainer the double.

A bad mistake at the last by the 4 to 5 favourite almost let in Hariymi but McCoy galvanised his mount to run out a length and a quarter winner.

Samakaan was another easy winner in the Enjoy Jump Racing At Folkestone Novices Chase, beating Willy Willy by 19 lengths.

However, the task for Venetia Williams's charge was made easier when favourite Mr Markham pulled up lame after the third last fence.

Topanga, trained by Mark Bradstock, has had leg problems but ran out a 10-length winner from Mr Pipe Man in the Worth Wood Selling Handicap Hurdle.

Keynote, ridden by Barry Fenton, captured the Tony Bennett 50th Birthday Novices' Handicap Chase.

Always prominent in the two-mile-five-furlong event, Richard Rowe's charge eventually scored by six lengths from Silver Sirocco.

The winning trainer said: "The horse was rusty first time out here this season and didn't like being stuck out the back.

"This time I told his rider to keep him up there with the pace. I think a left-handed, more galloping track could suit him better."
