Davis Cup officials plan to abolish "let" service calls in an effort to improve the international team competition

Davis Cup officials plan to abolish "let" service calls in an effort to improve the international team competition. The Davis Cup Committee of Management will recommend to the International Tennis Federation's annual general meeting that the "let" serve be eliminated for all zonal group three and four ties on a two year trial basis from 1997.

Sweden's Thomas Hallbgerg, director of the competition, said a two year Davis Cup study concluded that 85 per cent of "lets" - allowed no advantage to either player, 10 per cent gave the server an advantage and 5 per cent were of benefit to the receiver.
