MAYO SFC FINAL Ballintubber 0-8 Castlebar Mitchels 0-5:BALLINTUBBER PICKED up their first ever Mayo senior football title before a crowd of close to 9,000 McHale Park, Castlebar yesterday.

A poor first half will be remembered more for the missed opportunities, both sides guilty of failing to convert some very kickable frees but the 0-3 to 0-2 score probably reflected Ballintubber’s marginal dominance.

The game really swung towards Ballintubber going into the last quarter when Cillian O’Connor hit three points without reply as James Horan’s side went four points clear.

Although Nell Douglas pulled one back, a point from Ronan Burke in injury-time came far too late, Alan Plunkett sealing victory with his side’s eighth point five minutes into injury-time.
