Golf:Royal Troon has been named host venue for the 2012 British Amateur Championship with the nearby Glasgow Gailes Golf Club also set to play its part by hosting the qualifying stages of the Blue Riband event.
The initial strokeplay stages will be shared between the two venues but the final matchplay stages will be contested solely at Royal Troon, where the championship has been held on five previous occasions (2003, 1978, 1968, 1956 and 1938).
The Royal and Ancient (R&A) also announced County Louth Golf Club, where this week’s East of Ireland and the recent Irish Open were staged, will host the 2012 Boys Home Internationals.
Keeping this side of the water, the 2012 St Andrews and Jacques Leglise Trophies will be contested at Portmarnock Golf Club. The former Irish Open venue and recently voted number one in the Golf Digest Irelandtop 100 Irish courses held the Boys Home Internationals in 2004 and was the venue for the 1991 Walker Cup.
The 2012 Boys Championship will be held at England’s Notts Golf Club and the Seniors Open Amateur in the same year will be hosted by Wales’ Machynys Peninsula Golf Club. The Junior Open will be held at England’s Fairhaven Golf Club.
