US TOUR:Ted Potter Jr held a one-stroke clubhouse lead midway through the second round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am after beginning his round yesterday with an eagle.
The second-year PGA Tour player got of to the perfect start when, starting on the back nine, he needed just three shots to complete the par-five 10th at Monterey Peninsula Country Club.
Potter had, however, handed those shots back at the turn before a run of four birdies in six holes on the front nine catapulted him back up the leaderboard.
A bogey at his last hole of the day meant he returned a second successive 67 to be eight under overall.
Swede Frederick Jacobson, who had so far had the day’s lowest round with a 66 at Pebble Beach, and John Merrick were within striking distance.
Pádraig Harrington, also playing at Pebble Beach, shot a second round 71 to lie sevens shots adrift of the lead. With birdies on the 5th, 6th, 11th and 12th Harrington was well placed but he gave back shots at the 13th, 14th and 16th.
Phil Mickelson, who won his 41st PGA Tour title in Phoenix last week, was just above the cut-off mark through 15 holes. The four-time major champion crashed towards an early finish with three bogeys in four holes to remain on one under.
Brandt Snedeker, who finished second to Mickelson last weekend, was comfortably placed at four under through 15 holes alongside Lee Westwood, the best-placed Englishman, after his opening-round 68.
