Leinster Colleges' SHC A Semi-Final - St Kieran's College 2-14 Castlecomer CS 2-7:JOHN POWER was the hero of the hour as St Kieran's College got the better of local rivals Castlecomer in the Leinster colleges senior hurling championship at Freshford on Saturday.
Power, a younger brother of Kilkenny senior hurler Richie, helped himself to 2-4, the second goal breaking the spirit of a game 'Comer side late in the game.
Kieran's began well with points from Cillian Buckley (two) and James Gannon, but Castlecomer clawed the deficit back to draw level through Pádraig Keating, Stephen Daly and Charles Dwyer.
However, Power then struck with a 14th minute goal and Kieran's went on to establish a 1-10 to 0-6 lead at the interval.
'Comer got back into the game after Charlie Dwyer netted four minutes into the second half, and when he goaled from a free in the 38th minute the contest was alive again (1-11 to 2-6).
Quick points from Conor O'Shea and Thomas O'Hanrahan helped Kieran's regain their composure, but they were never really able to settle until Power bagged his second goal with the last score of the game.
