WITH 10 winners in the last fortnight the Whatcombe yard of Paul Cole is really firing at the moment and further success can come when Present Arms lines up in the Furlong Club Stakes at Newbury today.
A big rangy sort, the three year old showed in his seasonal debut at Warwick that he has developed since his juvenile days.
In his first year on the course, the best Present Arms could produce was two third placings in maidens at Brighton and Chepstow.
Both races were over a mile which was always likely to be on the short side for a son of Affirmed. Added to that the soft ground at Chepstow was also not.
However, both conditions and distance at Warwick earlier this month were much more to his liking.
On firm ground and over 10 furlongs, Present Arms stayed on strongly, despite being hampered when beginning his effort at the three marker, to get within one and three quarter lengths of Traceability.
Another who likes to hear his feet rattle is Knobbleeneeze who can take the closing Levy Board Apprentice Handicap.
