Off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq bagged a career-best 8-164 but it was not enough to take the pressure off Pakistan's batsmen on day three of the first Test against England in Lahore yesterday.
Pakistan ended at 119-2 in reply to England's 440-8 declared and need another 162 runs to avoid the follow on.
Salim Elahi was on 15 and Inzamam-ul-Haq 11 when bad light forced the players off the field eight overs before schedule. Pakistan will need some responsible batting on the fourth day to avoid disaster and salvage a draw.

The Irishwomen all produced solid firstset performances, but then wilted. Gina Niland set the pattern by only losing out in to Sophia Arvidsson 7-6 in the first set, but the Swede, ranked 856 in the world, took the second set easily 6-2.
Cork teenager Elsa O'Riain also faded in the second set, losing out to Diana Majkic 76, 6-1.
The dead doubles rubber also saw Karen Nugent and Anne Marie Hogan lose to to Jennie Lindstrom and Maria Wolfbrandt 76, 6-3.
Gaelic Games: A crucial goal 10 minutes into the second half from substitute Johnny Dooley helped Kilkenny CBS cruise to a comfortable victory by 2-12 to 2-4 over Enniscorthy CBS in their Leinster Colleges `A' Senior Hurling Championship game in Kilkenny yesterday.
Having led 0-9 to 1-1 at the interval, the determined Kilkenny side moved into a 0-9 to 0-1 lead, through the accuracy of midfielder Niall Bergin and Conor McLoughlin, before the losers had a goal just on the break from Rory Jacob.
While Enniscorthy CBS must have been hopeful of getting back into contention it was the home side who turned on the style with Bergin's goal on 40 minutes, which was followed by a further Mark O'Hara goal 10 minutes later, giving them their first victory of the campaign.
