MUNSTER Senior League champions Avondale United face the longest journey in the competition's second round when they hike it up to face Kildrum Tigers as the Donegal side make their bow at this stage of the FAI Cup, writes PAUL BUTTNER
With the FAI Intermediate Cup also already in their trophy cabinet this season, John Cotter’s Avondale make the five-hour drive north with plenty of confidence.
Leinster Senior League champions Crumlin United, not averse to a giantkilling in the recent past, haven’t quite as far to travel as they cede home advantage to play near neighbours St Patrick’s Athletic’s at Richmond Park.
First Division leaders Longford Town will tread carefully at Frank Cooke Park against beaten Intermediate Cup finalists Cherry Orchard, who have the experience of Tony O’Connor, a cup-winning captain at Bohemians, on their coaching staff.
Waterford United travel to Cork to face Everton, who finished sixth in the Munster Senior League Premier Division.
If there is to be a shock, it may come at Moneygourney where Douglas Hall, managed by former Cork City midfielder Kelvin Flanagan, host Wexford Youths.
