Motor Sport: Ferrari will supply the Prost Formula One motor racing team with their V10 engine for the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Peugeot announced in July that they were ending their association with motor racing on December 31st, leaving team boss and former world champion Alain Prost needing to find a replacement engine for next season. Prost have had a poor season so far with Jean Alesi and Nick Heidfeld failing to score a point in 10 races.
Golf: Loren Roberts shot a second-round 67 last night for a one-stroke lead in the $2.6 million Westin Texas Open.
After an opening-round 64 he stood at nine-under-par 131, one shot better than Justin Leonard and Len Mattiace.
The 36-hole cut came at even-par 140. Among those leaving early were Hal Sutton and Australians Aaron Baddeley and James McLean.
Golf: Northern Ireland's David Jones overcame a treacherous course and temperatures well into the 90s when he opened with a six-underpar 66 during the first round of the TeMes Seniors Open at Glyfada in Athens.
That gave Jones (54) from Bangor, a share of the course record and he goes into the second round two shots ahead of Australia's John Tolhurst and three strokes in front of Canada's Glenn MacDonald, Americans David Oakley and Alan Tapie, and another Northern Irelander, Eddie Polland.
Golf: Richie Coughlan was one of 29 players to qualify for the second stage in Spain in November after returning a final round 67 for a three-under-par total of 285 in the first stage of the European Tour Qualifying School at Fives Lakes, Essex yeterday. The former Walker Cup man went into the final day on two over par but staged a remarkable recovery with six birdies in his 67. Simon McCarthy headed the field with a fine 12-under 276.
