THE BRITISH HORSERACING BOARD yesterday announced across the board cuts in minimum prize money values from the end of the month.

Reacting to the Levy Board's decision to reduce its contribution over the next 15 months by £3.4 million, the BHB is to implement the cuts to all races from January 29th until March 31th next year.

As a result minimum values on the Flat will drop by an average 5.2 per cent but jump race purses, originally due for the greater rise, will generally remain at 1995 levels.

The BHB will revise the amounts if there is a further change in the Levy Board's contribution. But on current statistics it expects the overall prize money fund to be only marginally down. Total prize money has risen steadily to stand at £59.2 million last year and it is estimated this year's total will reach £59.1m.
