Sigerson Cup: Queen's University 1-14, NUI Galway 1-13 Holders Queen's University are through to the quarter-finals at the expense of NUIG after a one-point victory in Mullahoran, Cavan, yesterday. The Belfast side had the better of the first half but by the interval their lead was a mere point, 1-5 to 0-7, the goal coming from Seán O'Neill after 19 minutes.
They added points from Paul Courtney, Paul McComiskey and Seán O'Neill to hold a 1-14 to 0-12 lead with one minute remaining.
NUIG staged a late rally and a goal from Brendan Guckian brought great excitement. When Seán Armstrong pointed a free as the game moved into injury-time, Queen's were hanging on to a one-point advantage and were grateful to hear the final whistle.
