ROWING: THE EARLY-SEASON dominance of Queen's University's senior men was again on show on Saturday.

The A and B eights from the Belfast college filled the top two places at the Erne head of the river in Enniskillen. A composite of University of Limerick and Castleconnell and a St Michael’s crew took third and fourth.

Bann have been the outstanding men’s junior eight at recent heads, and were again at Erne, seeing off a good challenge from St Joseph’s of Galway and Portora.

The fastest women’s crew was the Portora women’s junior 18 eight, who clocked 25 minutes two seconds for the course. NUIG and Queen’s tied for the senior honours, three seconds further back.

Meanwhile, Seán McGowan has moved into the second half of his quest to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean. The Limerickman has passed the halfway point, with 1,338 nautical miles (2,478 kilometres) covered yesterday.
