NEWS AND SETANTA CUP PREVIEW: ST PATRICK'S Athletic striker Mark Quigley has been named as the Eircom/Soccer Writers' Association of Ireland Player of the Month for August, with the 22-year-old winning recognition for his performances in the Uefa and FAI Cups.

The Dubliner was on the mark against Wexford Youths as the Inchicore outfit booked their place in the FAI Cup quarter-finals and he was particularly impressive against Swedish side Elfsborg in Europe, with goals in both legs.

The award was announced after he and his team-mates had travelled to Germany for tomorrow night's first round proper encounter with Hertha Berlin at the Olympic Stadium.

"It's my first time winning this and obviously I'm delighted to get it," he said. "It was a great experience to pit your wits against good players and ones you haven't played against before.

"Now the Berlin game is something to really look forward to. They'll have a team full of internationals and names and faces we'll know but we'll just have to go out there and try and surprise them. You never know what can happen in football."

Cork City, meanwhile, travel to Drogheda United this evening for the fifth round of group games in the Setanta Sports Cup. Alan Mathews is likely to be without injured pair Pat Sullivan and Cillian Lordan again, while Denis Behan and Dan Murray are also doubts having picked up knocks in Saturday 1-1 draw with Derry City.

The two clubs are tied on 10 points and battling it out for top spot as well as home advantage at the semi-final stage.

In the night's other games, Cliftonville are at Dungannon Swifts, while in Group Two, Glentoran make the short journey to their old rivals Linfield.
