THE uncertainty surrounding Niall Quinn's future with Manchester City produced more speculation yesterday when his name was linked with the Boston club, New England Revolution.
A report in a Boston paper suggested that Quinn is the man being targeted by former Ireland colleague Frank Stapleton in his attempt to take the team into the play-off stages of the American League.
It's the latest in a long list of possible moves for Quinn whose name has been linked with Sunderland and the Turkish club Galatasaray among others, as Manchester City's manager Alan Ball ponders his plans for the new season.
If Boston's interest is genuine, it has yet to be conveyed to the player. "I certainly haven't been approached by anybody from the club - and I'm inclined to doubt if I will," he said.
The more likely target for Stapleton, perhaps, in his efforts to boost the striking power of his team is the Scotland player Ally McCoist whose contract with Rangers is up for renewal.
McCoist, like Quinn, could only be attracted to America by an enhanced payment scheme in a league in which players' salaries are capped but with sponsorship and product endorsement money available, this, apparently, would not be a problem.
