Top jockey Bryan Cooper suffered a partially collapsed lung in a nasty incident on the fourth day of the Galway Festival.

Further scans are awaited on Cooper, who parted company from the Gordon Elliott-trained Tiger Roll approaching the final fence in the Guinness Harp Novice Chase.

He did his best to stay with the horse, but ultimately found himself unseated and sliding into the take-off board at the bottom of the obstacle.

Dr Adrian McGoldrick, chief medical advisor for the Irish Turf Club, said: “At the moment he has a partially collapsed lung and we are awaiting a scan report.
