Davy Condon is on standby to ride Chicago Grey in the Grand National at Aintree in Saturday.
Paul Carberry is the intended jockey for the Gordon Elliott-trained 10-year-old, but he must prove his fitness in time for the Liverpool centrepiece.
Carberry is struggling with a chest injury after he fell from Mae’s Choice in a Grade Three at Fairyhouse on Tuesday.
Condon did the steering when Chicago Grey won the Grade Two Red Mills Chase on his last start in February at Navan.
Elliott told The Morning Line on Channel 4: “Paul will do the right thing for the owner and the horse.
“Davy will ride if Paul can’t, so we’ve got a good substitute.
“Hopefully he can run a great race.”
