WOMEN'S HOCKEY:A WEEK after winning the EuroHockey Indoor Champions Challenge, Railway Union took a step closer to more silverware yesterday when they beat Loreto 3-1 in the semi-finals of the Leinster Jacqui Potter Cup.

Their opponents in the March 17th final will be UCD, who qualified by beating Pembroke Wanderers a week ago, the same team Railway defeated 4-0 in Saturday’s league game.

Recently appointed Irish captain Alex Speers was among the scorers for Railway as they maintained their title challenge. Both their rivals, though, also picked up victories, Loreto beating Trinity 3-1 and Hermes holding on to top spot with a 3-0 win over Glenanne.

Hermes, then, maintained their two-point lead over Loreto, who have two games in hand, and their four-point advantage over Railway – who have one game in hand.
