CRICKET:The appalling weather this summer has at least lent some excitement to the end of season fixtures in the Whitney Moore League, with several issues of promotion and relegation still to be decided.
Railway Union, who carried all before them last year, are in real danger of the drop following their six run defeat by Merrion last weekend. Railway's position will look perilous if they lose to Clontarf on Sunday at Castle Avenue.
Only a maximum 50 point return from their remaining two fixtures would save them. North County and The Hills, both finalists in the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup.
At the top of Section A, Rush will all but take the title if they beat North County today.
The North County side have won all the games they have played this year. Should they stumble, Clontarf and Merrion retain outside hopes of pipping them at the post.
In Section B, Leinster are already promoted, leaving a battle between Malahide and Phoenix for the final spot. These two teams meet at Phoenix Park on the final day of the season, setting up a great finale should results go according to plan today.
At a meeting of the Leinster Cricket Union Executive on September 5th, Leinster successfully appealed against the decision to annul the match played against Old Belvedere at Rathmines rather than being played at Cabra.
Accordingly the original result and points (Leinster, 21 points, beat Old Belvedere, 4 points, by two wickets) was restored and the tables have been amended to reflect that.
