BMW Championship:Ian Poulter picked up an early birdie before play was halted early in the second round at the £3.5million BMW Championship in Illinois.
He birdied the par-four first and then parred the second before rain, and the potential for lightning, sent players scurrying from the Cog Hill course.
Poulter, who needs to finish probably no worse than second to advance to next week's Tour Championship, was four under par — three strokes behind American leader Jonathan Byrd, who had just hit his opening tee shot before the horn sounded.
Justin Rose, who along with Poulter and Luke Donald makes up the small British contingent in the FedEx Cup play-off event, also played just one shot, starting his day at the par-four 10th just one stroke off the pace.
For the second successive day, officials brought tee times forward in an effort to beat possible thunderstorms, which never materialised yesterday.
However, they were not so fortunate today, although the early start and a small field meant the round would still probably be completed, barring an all-day stoppage.
The BMW is the third of four events in the new play-off series, with only the top 30 players on the points table qualifying for the Tour Championship.
