Scotland's Richie Ramsay beat France's Julien Guerrier two and one in the annual Georgia Cup match between the amateur champions of America and Britain.
Ramsay last August became the first British player to win the United States title since 1911 and with it earned a pairing with defending champion Phil Mickelson in next week's US Masters.
Guerrier led by two after five at the Golf Club of Georgia but Ramsay fought his way back to nose in front on the 14th and held the edge over the closing stretch.
"I was disappointed in my performance early but I kind of hung in there and dug out a win," said the 23-year-old.
"I was lucky because I didn't putt that great. I just managed to hit fairways and greens like I usually do. Julien's a great champion and I feel fortunate to get a win over him."
Unfortunately 21-year-old Guerrier saved his best for when the match was over. The two continued on the par-five 18th and he hit the flagstick with a 260-yard three-wood for a tap-in eagle.
"I'm glad it was already over," said Ramsay. "At the end of the day a win is a win. I'm just happy to put my name on that trophy."
He and Guerrier head to Augusta on Saturday.
