Champions League/Group B/Real Madrid 1; Bayer Leverkusen 1: Real Madrid's captain Raul last night came to their rescue when he equalled Alfredo Di Stefano's record of 49 goals in the European Cup to earn his side a draw at home to Bayer Leverkusen.

Real had a chance to snatch the win when Zinedine Zidane manufactured a penalty after going down on the edge of the area under pressure from Leverkusen defender Juan.

But Luis Figo's 81st minute spot kick was brilliantly saved by Hans-Joerg Butt.

Real were on the ropes for much of the Champions League match and were in deep trouble when Dimitar Berbatov gave the visitors the lead nine minutes before the break.

Real claimed the draw thanks to a marvellous piece of individual skill from Luis Figo and smart finishing from Raul 20 minutes from time.

The Portuguese midfielder weaved his way past three defenders, exchanged a smart one-two with Zidane and slipped the ball to Raul, who guided in from two metres out.

Meanwhile, Valencia midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo will miss his side's last two Champions League group matches because of a thigh strain, the Primera Liga club said yesterday.

Angulo (27) who won his first cap for Spain in last week's friendly against England, sustained the injury in his side's 2-0 win against Malaga on Saturday and Valencia medical staff said that he would be out of action for between two and three weeks.

He will miss the club's remaining Group G games at Anderlecht tonight and at home to Werder Bremen on December 7th.

Valencia need to win both games to have any chance of making the next round of the competition.

Midfielder David Albelda, centre-back Roberto Ayala and winger Vicente are also out through injury.
