It's rare enough for a course record to be broken, so for it to happen twice in a day and three times in a fortnight is truly exceptional. But that's what transpired at Kilmashogue, the club that was established four years ago on the nine-hole course in the grounds of St Columba's College in Rathfarnham. Ten-handicapper Paul Fitzgerald set the mark with a 75 two weekends ago. Senior cricketer Conor Haine went one lower last Saturday but Fitzgerald clearly fancied the `course record holder' monicker. He went out later in the day and carded a three-over-par 73, not only regaining the record but beating Haine on the back nine to win the singles competition.

International hockey player Liam Canning, who also plays in Woodenbridge, is the club's lowest handicap member on five and now has a serious target to aim for.
