Referee Francis Swan created controversy near the end of this match when he mistakenly red carded Philip Purcell of home side Fairview Rangers as he was carried from the field concussed after a clash - Swan later admitted he thought the player had already been booked - but otherwise this was an entertaining game at Fairgreen. Fairview, FAI Junior Cup champions for the last three years, had slightly the better of the opening half, with Corinthians goalkeeper Eric Barrett doing well to save from Trevor Lavelle and Barry Ryan.
But it was a different story after the break when the Cork side ruled, and twice had the ball in the net, from Ollie Nagle and Dave Morley, only to be called back for off side.
