LET TOUR:Sweden's Nina Reis posted a flawless, eight-under-par 64 at Golf Club Gut Häusern to take a two-shot lead after the first round of the Ladies German Open in Munich.
The 28-year-old from Gothenburg posted eight birdies, with four on each nine, to lead from England's Lora Fairclough and France's Jade Schaeffer on six-under-par 66.
Martina Gillen from Beaverstown is four shots back after an opening 68.
Gillen birdied the third and fifth in an outward nine of 35, dropping just one shot at the seventh, before storming home in three-under-par with birdies at the 12th, 15th and 18th,
Rebecca Coakley is 10 shots off the pace at two-over-par 74.
Michelle Wie shot a four-under 68 to finish four shots behind the leader Reis. Wie birdied three of her first five holes but failed to take advantage on the par fives.
"I would take another three-under-par on the first five holes any day," said Wie, who added that she feels she has lost some of her length since hurting her wrist last year.
"I'm still in the rehab process just really building up to what I had before. It's definitely on the right track. I don't feel like I'm holding on," she said.
"I felt like I played really well but I felt like I left a couple out there as well, especially on the par fives. I think overall I'm pretty happy with how I played. I played consistently. It just has to get better each and every day."
CHALLENGE TOUR:England's Robert Rock unearthed the driver that helped him claim one of his best career results to card five birdies in his opening five holes for a four-way share of the lead at the Oceânico Group Pro-Am Challenge at the Marriott Worsley Park Hotel & Country Club outside Manchester.
After picking up two more shots for a flawless seven under par opening round of 63, Rock revealed that he had returned to the driver which he used when he tied for 16th place in the British Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in 2006.
"I had a good start. I was hoping to pick up some more shots after the turn but it wasn't to be."
Rock was joined at the top of the first round leaderboard by Raphal De Sousa, Kasper Linnet Jorgensen and Richie Ramsay.
AMATEUR SENIORS:Jimmy Clynch from Laytown & Bettystown continued his excellent form on the second day of the Irish Seniors Amateur Open Championship, sponsored by the Portuguese Tourist Board, at Westport Golf Club when he added a two-under-par 71 to his opening 70 for a total of 141 and a four-shot lead going into today's final round.
It promises to be an exciting final round with former internationals, and newcomers to the seniors ranks, Adrian Morrow (Portmarnock) and Liam McNamara (Woodbrook) sharing second place on one-under-par 145, along with Bandon's John Carroll.
Reigning British Seniors champion and former Irish international and Walker Cup player Arthur Pierse from Tipperary is very much in contention on 147.
EUROPEAN TOUR:World number two Phil Mickelson, third-ranked Ernie Els and fourth-ranked Adam Scott will lead a strong field in the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond in July, organisers said.
Mickelson and Els, a double winner of the British Open warm-up event, return after finishing second and third respectively last year behind Frenchman Gregory Havret.
