RACING: Rock of Gibraltar can secure himself a place amongst racing's greatest performers by taking his sixth consecutive Group One contest in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood today.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained three-year-old will be bidding to emulate the great Mill Reef's feat of 30 years ago when he lines up for the £265,000 contest.

Rock Of Gibraltar will be meeting his elders for the first time in the one-mile event but his credentials coming into the race are absolutely impeccable.

The son of Danehill kicked off this season with a win in the Sagitta 2,000 Guineas, denying stablemate and subsequent Coral-Eclipse winner Hawk Wing by a fast-diminishing neck before following up in the Curragh equivalent.

His narrow win over Hawk Wing at Newmarket was undoubtedly more impressive than his subsequent victory at the Curragh when he faced only a few high-class rivals but his best performance came at Royal Ascot.

O'Brien's colt accounted for the French Guineas victor Landseer and the Italian and German Guineas winner Dupont in truly convincing fashion in the St James's Palace Stakes.

The official margin of a length and three-quarters does not reflect the authority with which he won.

Rock Of Gibraltar will come up against some smart older horses today, including last year's winner of this race Noverre, but they have to give away lumps of weight to the three-year-old.

The weight advantage combined with Rock Of Gibraltar's substantial abilities can see him cement his place as the best miler in Europe.

David Loder's two-year-olds have not got off to their usual flying start this season, but the Godolphin operation can land one of the big juvenile events with Silver Seeker.

This grey son of Seeking The Gold was less than impressive on his racecourse debut at Yarmouth when third of four runners to Membership at odds-on.

But he showed he had improved for that outing when just prevailing in a maiden event at Newmarket at the end of June.

Although that performance was only workmanlike, Silver Seeker looked to be a colt with plenty of improvement in him and he can successfully step up in class here to take the Group Three Champagne Victor Vintage Stakes.

Mark Johnston's Mana d'Argent has come back to form with a bang in recent weeks and he can continue that run in the opening Marriott Hotels Goodwood Stakes.

The five-year-old turned in some fair runs at the beginning of the season but began to show his true form when third to Riyadh in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting.

His subsequent run at Haydock when unplaced was disappointing but he bounced back last time out with a win over two miles back at Ascot.
