MUNSTER JUNIOR CUP/Glenstal Abbey 6 St Munchins 0:GLENSTAL CAUSED a huge upset when they beat last season's finalists in the Munster Schools' Junior Cup at Tom Clifford Park.
The winners finished with only 13 players with sin-binnings in the final stages of a contest.
St Munchin’s should have been punished more for their indiscipline, especially in the first half, but Kevin O’Keeffe failed with three reasonable kicks at goal.
But the outhalf emerged the hero of the hour when he put Glenstal in front with a penalty from 22 metres five minutes into the second half.
Nine minutes later St Munchin’s were again penalised and again O’Keeffe landed the penalty.
When they did gain possession St Munchin’s were guilty of poor handling and never looked like getting the better of a rock-solid Glenstal defence.
Two minutes from the end Conor Hughes of Glenstal was binned, and at the finish he was joined by his team-mate Tom Ryan.
