Rockmount were denied their passage to the second round and a major giant-killing when they had a goal disallowed and claims for a penalty waived aside at Rockmount Park in Cork yesterday.
Rockmount had a goal disallowed after just 17 minutes when Pat Oldham was pulled back for dangerous play. But three minutes later the same player gave the Munster Senior League side the lead when he scored following a free-kick by Philip Hogan.
Rockmount's chances of causing that major upset were hit just before half-time when the stylish Hogan was carried off with a suspected broken shin bone to be replaced by former Cork City player Brian Walsh.
The home team gifted UCD an equaliser just four minutes after the restart, when half-time substitute Ken Kilmurray scored with a glancing header from Robert Dunne's free-kick.
Rockmount were reduced to 10 men when striker Ciaran O'Shea was sent off for a second yellow card, midway through the second half, and he was joined by UCD's Robert Dunne on the sideline in the final minute.
They also had claims for a late penalty waved aside by the referee when fullback Alan Mahon clearly handled the ball inside the area.
The teams will meet in their first-round replay tomorrow evening at Belfield Park, 7.30.
