Co Meath trainer Ger Lyons saddled his first double at a showery Roscommon yesterday evening when Tifosi and Tittle Tattle both justified strong support to lose their maiden status.
Tifosi made virtually all under championship leader John Murtagh to beat Mission Hills by a cosy length and a half in the NCF Dairies Handicap. The daughter of Mujadil will not bid for a quick follow-up as Lyons believes she needs a break between races.
Tittle Tattle, who has twice refused to enter the starting stalls this season, gave no trouble last night, entering the stalls with the aid of the Monty Roberts rug in the Percy French Maiden. She responded to a typically determined drive from Wayne Smith to beat She's Wonderful by half a length.
"She was Listed placed last year and, thankfully, has now got her win," said a delighted Lyons afterwards.
Danny Grant has built up a rewarding association with Kate Emily recently, and the four-year-old Priolo filly made it three wins in nine days when swooping late to take the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap. Grant, partnering his seventh winner of the season, gave the Pat Flynn-trained winner a strong drive, challenging on the stands side to beat Koko Nor by two lengths.
"We have him back on track," was trainer David Kiely's reaction after Solvang returned to form in the five-runner Roscommon Chase.
