NFL DIVISION THREE Wexford 1-12 Roscommon 1-9:WEXFORD STAYED in the promotion hunt but Roscommon were relegated after a dramatic finale to a poor match at Hyde Park yesterday.

Corner-forward Shane Roche pounced for a last-minute goal to give Wexford victory. His goal was shrouded in some controversy as the free which started the move should have gone to the home team.

Roscommon looked set for victory when they led by one point at half-time having played against the wind but they lost their way.

Roscommon’s confidence was sapped by four early second-half wides while Wexford began to dominate the middle third. John Rogers edged Roscommon back in to the lead after 52 minutes only for Redmond Barry to equalise.

Wexford’s Brendan Doyle had a goal disallowed for being in the square but they went two points ahead with frees from Ciarán Lyng and Roche. With three minutes left Cathal McHugh’s goal gave Roscommon hope but Roche equalised from a free and in the last minute he hit the winning goal.
