Leinster League Final/ Cistercian Roscrea (27), Gonzaga College (15): Cistercian College, Roscrea got the perfect boost before the start of their senior cup campaign by overpowering Gonzaga College at Donnybrook yesterday.

Out-half Myles O'Riordan's 15th minute penalty for offside helped the winners settle into their forward-dominated game-plan. Centres Giles Boland and John Verling combined to put Séamus Hennessy into space down the left. Hooker Stanley Hayes was in support and the entire pack drove number eight Diarmuid O'Sullivan to the line for the opening try. O'Riordan converted for a 10-0 lead at the break.

Openside Andrew Sherry popped up beside Boland in midfield and after drawing the last defender, sent Hennessy into the left corner in the 39th minute.

Centre Verling's searing pace and Boland's timing of the pass made it a formality for Hennessy to collect his second try in the 45th minute. O'Riordan converted again to make it 22-0.

Gonzaga hit back when Shane Gahan's half-break and offload allowed Donal O'Cofaigh to finish for centre Gahan to kick the extras. Gahan's 58th minute penalty made it interesting but hooker Hayes drove over for the clincher. James Gethings used his size and strength for a late consolation try.
