LEINSTER JUNIOR CUP/Cistercian, Roscrea ... 22 Kilkenny College ... 0: A powerful second-half display saw Cistercian College, Roscrea ease their way past a determined Kilkenny side at Portlaoise yesterday and book a place in the quarter-finals against Blackrock College.
Despite a one-sided scoreline, the Kilkenny college, fielding a very youthful side, played some top-class rugby.
A first-half try from number eight Brendan O'Connell and converted by Myles O'Riordan was all that separated the sides at the break.
However, 10 minutes into the second half Neville O'Donoghue crossed for the second Roscrea try to which O'Riordan again added the points and also kicked a penalty to take the Tipperary college out of sight.
Kilkenny launched attack after attack in the closing quarter but were denied by a solid and well-drilled Roscrea defence .
Two minutes from the end a third try by Roscrea captain Martin Staunton gave the scoreboard a one-sided look.
