JUNIOR CUP/CISTERCIAN ROSCREA - 17; ST PAUL'S - 0: Cistercian Roscrea made light of the driving wind and rain to claim a place in the quarter-finals of the Leinster Schools' Junior Cup yesterday at Newbridge.
Outhalf Tom Garvey opened their account with an early penalty against the breeze and converted two penalties before the interval, giving the winners a nine-point advantage at half-time.
They continued to dominate after the break and persistent pressure was rewarded with the game's only try midway through the half when Dominic McGuinness beat David Coughlan in a race for the touchdown.
There was no way back for St Paul's although they spent some time inside the Roscrea 22 before the end. Garvey concluded the scoring with another penalty in the 56th minute.
