Colleges Hurling Leinster quarter-final/Castlecomer 1-10 Cistercian Roscrea 1-8: Cistercian Roscrea's run in the Leinster Colleges senior hurling championship was ended by Castlecomer CS in Portlaoise yesterday.
Castlecomer got off to a great start when, in the first minute, Colin McGrath's free spun into the net, and they went on to build a 1-6 to 0-3 half-time lead.
On the change-over Roscrea improved greatly but they wasted a lot of scoring opportunities.
Ten minutes from time they were thrown a lifeline when Niall Minnock fired to the roof of the net. Points followed from Jonathan Cody and Eoin Madigan and when goalkeeper Tom Delaney pointed a free from 70 metres two minutes from time the margin was down to two, but they couldn't bridge the gap.
