Justin Rose was disappointed not to end his recent poor run with a victory at the Memorial tournament - but was satisfied enough with his progress.
The Englishman struggled on his return to Europe in the PGA Championship at Wentworth last week but was back on form to earn a share for second in Dublin, Ohio, last night.
Kenny Perry took the title by two strokes at Muirfield Village but Rose's 71 was enough to see him finish alongside Mike Weir, Matthew Goggin and Jerry Kelly on six-under.
Rose had started well with two early birdies, followed by an unlikely eagle from a greenside bunker at the par-five seventh.
Back-to-back bogeys, however, at the 12th and 13th proved costly as he fell short in his quest for his first PGA Tour win.
"I've just come off three missed cuts in a row to finish second, so I guess I'll take it," Rose said.
"But at the same time, I really felt like it could have been my day. I was great mentally out there and the putts just didn't go in.
"Winning is all about making the putts at the right time and I had a hot putter this week and I felt I was hitting decent putts, but I didn't quite have the confidence in the read."
