An incident during Leinster’s European Champions Cup match against Bath last weekend in Aviva Stadium resulted in a young fan being taken to hospital by a family member. He is believed to be not seriously injured after being struck with an object during the game.
It is unknown if the object accidentally fell from the stand above or was thrown into the crowd from another section of the stadium. The fan is believed to be a minor who was attending the game with his father in the lower seats. The match was the last of Leinster’s Pool matches in the Champion’s Cup and drew an attendance of over 40,000 fans.
It comes following a week in which Leinster turned off the comments on their social media channels for the first time since 2015 following Leinster coaches and players being the targets of unacceptable online abuse.
It is rare in rugby to experience crowd trouble or for dangerous objects to fall from the upper tiers. Leinster issued a brief statement about the most recent incident.
