Team News:New Zealand have made sweeping changes for their game with Portugal in Lyon on Saturday, retaining just four players from their opening round victory.
The only survivor in the back line is Mils Muliaina, who reverts to his usual fullback spot, allowing Conrad Smith to come in at outside centre. With Aaron Mauger taking the twelve jersey Isaia Toeava has to settle for a place on the wing.
Nick Evans and Brendon Leonard start at halfback, while Joe Rokocoko comes in on the left wing to complete the changes behind the scrum.
The forwards show five changes, with the lock pairing of Ali Williams and Chris Jack retained, more out of necessity that anything else. Reuben Thorne and Keith Robinson are both still out with injury, meaning Henry had no other option at lock.
Greg Somerville returns from injury to take his place in a new look front, along side Andrew Hore and Neemia Tialata, the heaviest All Black in history at 127kg.
Sione Lauaki and Chris Masoe will pack down at eight and openside flank respectively, whilst Jerry Collins retains the number six jersey and will also captain the side.
The wholesale changes come as no surprise, as Graham Henry looks to give everyone a run out in the opening two games.
"We wanted to give every member of the squad a run during these first two pool matches and that's been the major consideration in naming this team," said Henry.
"We have also talked about raising our standards from week to week and that's the challenge for this Saturday.
"We want to find the mental strength to play better for longer
than we did against Italy."
